Donate Your Stamps, Covers & Collections

At some point in time, collectors realize that they need to dispose of all or part of their collection. Collecting interests may have changed, a spouse may be demanding return of one or more rooms in the house, or there are no family members interested in the hobby.  Donors ensure that the collection is put to an educational use and enjoyed by others.

Donations of tangible personal property are often called “gifts-in-kind.” Gifts of stamps, postal history, philatelic literature, and supplies are related to the mission and purpose of the Spellman Museum as tax exempt organization and thus may be deducted at their fair market value. Gifts-in-kind unrelated to the mission of the Spellman Museum may also be donated but for tax purposes must be valued at cost.
The Spellman Curator and Librarian may select items from each donation to be added to the Museum’s collections or library. The Education Director uses many stamps for programs and activities. Some of the material may be sold to support the Museum’s mission and enhance the collections of others. The Spellman Museum is the ultimate recycler for philatelic material – nothing will go to waste!
